It has been revealed that more than MVR 400,000 was spent on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's tour of some islands in Raa atoll from January 21 – 23.

This was revealed in response to an RTI (Right to Information) request submitted by RaajjeMV to the President's Office seeking details of the expenses of the president's tour of some islands in Raa atoll, under the Right to Information Act.

In the response form sent to RaajjeTV, signed by President's Office Information Officer Maryam Shaufa, it was stated that under the Right to Information Act, the cost of the president's trip from January 21 – 23, amounted to MVR 487,447.45.

During his tour of the islands in Raa atoll, President Muizzu visited 11 islands of the atoll. The islands he toured include Angolhitheemu, Hulhudhuffaaru, Innamaadhoo, Kinolhas, Maakurathu, Maduvvari, Fainu, Rasgetheem, Rasmaadhoo, and Ungoofaaru.

The President's Office went on to reveal that during the tour, it was planned to inaugurate development projects across multiple islands and to inaugurate services that have been established in some islands. However, the projects are yet to commence.

Opposition parties have also stated that none of the statements made by President Muizzu during his visit to these islands on the tour trip were consistent with reality.
