The main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced that its "May Day Protest," aimed at demanding the protection of rights, will be held on the night of May 1 at Artificial Beach.
MDP announced this while briefing journalists at the party office on Friday.
Former MP for Alifushi constituency, Mohamed Rasheed Hussain said that the May Day protest, which is held every year on the first day of May, will also be held this year. He said that the protest will be held on the night of May 1, at the Artificial Beach.
The former lawmaker criticized the current administration, claiming it has lost control and is failing to deliver anything beneficial to the public. He accused the government of outright lying about electricity subsidies and access to medical treatment.
He added that the only way to put an end to this is for the opposition to take to the streets, raise their voices, and hold the government accountable.
In addition to this, the former MP said that MDP will also do whatever possible to seek justice for Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, 21, who was found fallen on the roof of a house adjacent to H. Fentenoy, injured beyond recognition.
