The practical work of land reclamation has begun as part of the Gulhi land reclamation and coastal protection project in Kaafu atoll.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) revealed that under the project, land reclamation will add 10.15 hectares of land to the island. In addition to this, as part of the coastal protection work, they will construct a 10,962-meter rock revetment, a 362-meter geobag revetment, and 88 meters of groyne.

The land reclamation project is valued at MVR 89.63 million.

MTCC revealed that upon completion of the project, the island's land scarcity issue will be resolved, the guesthouse business will expand, and the island will see further development.

With a population of 814 people, Gulhi island in Kaafu atoll is a stunning and charming little island despite its small land area. Presently, about 15 guesthouses are operating on the island.

The practical work of the Gulhi land reclamation project was officially inaugurated by the company's Managing Director, DCP (Retired) Ahmed Saudhee.
