A Director General has been appointed to the Maldivian Blood Services without a prior announcement.
While this position is a civil service position, the usual procedure is to select someone after advertising the position and conducting interviews.
Ahmed Mausoom, who previously worked at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), has been appointed as the Director General of Maldivian Blood Services.
Due to the deterioration of the quality of services provided by the Thalassemia Center, many people gathered and protested on Saturday night. After the protest wrapped up, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited the center the next day to assess its condition. After that, the president revealed that the center has been operating without a Director General since 2017. Further, the president added that he will take many steps to improve the service at the facility, “immediately”.
Ahmed Mausoom's appointment to the position comes after eight years without a DG at the Thalassemia Center.
Taking to social media platform ‘X’ on Monday, the Ministry of Health confirmed Mausoom's appointment to the post of Director General of Maldivian Blood Services, on Monday.
In addition to this, the ministry highlighted that a Deputy Director General and a Director will also be appointed to the center very soon.
They also stated that a physician will be appointed in the near future, and an announcement was made on Monday to find five nurses needed for the facility at the moment. They revealed that work is underway to appoint other administrative staff as well.
The president has decided to resolve the issues of the Thalassemia Center within a specific period to facilitate the operation of the Thalassemia Center as a hospital to improve the treatment and services provided to thalassemia children.
It has also been decided to carry out the work of resolving the difficulties of thalassemia children and the center directly under the supervision and the center directly under the supervision of the president.
