Baa Atoll Council has signed an agreement with Freedive Maldives to organize a record-breaking diving event in Baa atoll, in connection with World Tourism Day festivities.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Fahud Faiz on behalf of Freedive Maldives. Ahmed Afrah, President of the Baa Atoll Council, signed on behalf of the Baa Atoll Council.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, Afrah said that they are working to set a world record in connection with World Tourism Day to promote Baa Atoll as a tourist destination and to raise environmental awareness.
The event, named 'Baani', is open to the entire Maldives and will be held in the islands of Baa Atoll, as well as resorts and guesthouses.
The event is planned to be held with about a thousand people gathering and diving simultaneously in the Angafaru area of the atoll. The event will be held on 3 October 2025.
The world record attempt event to be held this year is the largest such event to be held in the atoll for the first time.
The area where the event is being held is part of the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve. Baa Atoll, considered a rich marine biodiversity atoll, is famous for the Angafaru area being a breeding ground for baby sharks.
