Two individuals have been arrested during the protest by the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to hold the government accountable, held late Sunday.

During the MDP protest held on Sunday night, officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) obstructed the demonstration and arrested Ibrahim “Gabbarey” Abdulla, the President of MDP's South Mahchangoalhi constituency, and Ahmed Shazeen, the President of Central Mahchangoalhi constituency.

The two were arrested without any stated reason while they were raising their voices against the government.

As the police suddenly entered the protest area, a participant fell, and when other protesters tried to help, the police obstructed them and began pushing the public. Even when the public tried to move forward, the police used force to push the protesters back.

Abruptly, the police entered among the protesters, slammed a RaajjeTV journalist on the back, pushed them, and arrested Gabbarey and Shazeen from among the protesters. Gabbarey was arrested while he was near a motorcycle. Shazeen was arrested while he was raising his voice among the protesters.

As the protest heated up, the police were then seen pushing and knocking down members of the public. This scene was witnessed from one particular police officer. Even as the protesters retreated, the police continued to threaten and push the public. Male police officers were seen touching and pushing female protesters, despite the presence of female officers.
