The party expressed deep concern over the measures taken against the Supreme Court

The Democrats have expressed deep concern about the measures currently being taken by the incumbent administration against the Supreme Court and condemned the government's actions.

In a statement released by the party on Wednesday, it stated that the party views the sudden suspension of Justice Husnu Al Suood, Justice Dr. Azmiralda Zahir and Justice Mahaz Ali Zahir as well as the halting of Supreme Court operations, and the measures being taken as attempts to intimidate the court and eliminate the independence of the judiciary.

The statement notes that the People’s Majlis recently passed a law through extraordinary procedures to reduce the number of Supreme Court justices, and after passing the law, announced the commencement of investigations into certain judges to achieve the reduced number of justices required by the law.

Almost immediately afterwards, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) suspended three justices of the Supreme Court and brought the court’s operations to a standstill.
