An investigation has been launched into a case where a Sri Lankan national threatened Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel via social media.
The threat to Minister Khaleel was made on social media platform ‘X’ under the name Nadish Perera.
Regarding the matter, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) on Friday stated that the case has come to their attention and they are looking into relevant aspects in collaboration with concerned authorities.
The police institution also mentioned that no one has been arrested in connection with this case, yet.
However, the police said that they are questioning individuals who need to be questioned regarding the matter.
While the Sri Lankan individual is issuing threats to Minister Khaleel, the minister is currently on an official trip to the country's capital, Colombo.
In addition to this, serious allegations have been made against Mohamed Shamaan Waheed, who holds the position of Controller General of the Maldives Immigration. Shamaan has been slapped with allegations of widespread corruption.
RaajjeMV understands that the Sri Lankan national is someone who was deported from the Maldives and is not allowed to enter the country. However, he claims that he was previously married to a Maldivian and resides in the Maldives, and that his child is in the Maldives. He has since requested permission to enter the Maldives, stating that he wants to see his child.
