Minister of Social and Family Development Dr. Aishath Shiham has revealed that there are 40 people working as case workers at the ministry.

Responding to a question from RaajjeTV during a press conference held on Thursday, she said that the case workers in the ministry are highly educated and capable individuals.

However, the minister highlighted that efforts are underway to recruit more case workers.

At a time the minister has made these remarks, there have been reports that the case workers are overwhelmed with heavy workload.

It is also being reported by the public that this has affected the services of the ministry.

However, the minister has assured that the number of cases handled by case workers has since been reduced.

Speaking further, the minister said that the number of children under state care has decreased in recent years.

She stated that the number of children under state care has decreased by 19 percent.
