The Parliamentary Group Leader of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has met with the Speaker of the People's Majlis, Abdul Raheem Abdulla.

Ibrahim Nazil, the Parliamentary Group Leader of the main opposition party, confirmed that the meeting took place at noon on Tuesday.

It is noteworthy that this meeting between Nazil, who is also the member for South Hithadhoo constituency, and the speaker of parliament comes at a time when relations between the president of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) and President of the Republic of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, and the speaker, who also serves as the Secretary-General of the party, have significantly deteriorated.

Nazil revealed that the speaker and him engaged in discussions revolving around several topics.

However, Nazil did not provide further details about the discussions.

The People's Majlis is scheduled to open for the year on Thursday, February 6, at 9:00am at the Parliament building.

While the Majlis Secretariat has sent the agenda for the day to the lawmakers, the agenda indicates that the Speaker of Parliament will preside over the session.

At the opening session of the Majlis each year, the President of the Republic delivers a Presidential Address outlining the government's plans for the upcoming year and the state of the nation.
