The day on which the president delivers the annual Presidential Address to the People's Majlis has been designated as a government holiday

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared the day of the Presidential Address as a government holiday.

The president is scheduled to deliver the Presidential Address on Thursday, 6 February 2025.

In an announcement issued by the President's Office, it was stated that in accordance with Article 84 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives, the day on which the president delivers the annual Presidential Address to the People's Majlis has been designated as a government holiday.

In the previous term, the president had decided not to declare the day of the Presidential Address a government holiday. However, with a change in the law, it has been decided to declare this year's Presidential Address day a holiday.

The practice of declaring the Presidential Address Day a holiday was ended by former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom back in 2014. Subsequently, the day was reinstated as a government holiday by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in 2019, through his declaration.

During Solih's administration, all days of the Presidential Address were declared government holidays.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's second Presidential Address is scheduled for 6 February 2025.

The Constitution of Maldives states that the president must deliver an address at the opening session of the People's Majlis each year. In this Presidential Address, the president must describe the current state of the country and outline the plans for improvements for the coming year to the Majlis.

The parliament session slated for 6 February 2025 will be President Muizzu's second Presidential Address since assuming office back in November 2023.
