Hussain “Fittey” Ziyad, the Member of Parliament for Vaikaradhoo constituency represents the main opposition MDP
Hussain “Fittey” Ziyad, the Member of Parliament for Vaikaradhoo constituency representing the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has been deceptively registered to the main ruling party, People's National Congress (PNC), through a forged form.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, the MDP lawmaker said he first learned about this on 23 December 2024. He also said that he has brought this to the attention of the Elections Commission of Maldives.
The MDP lawmaker said that when he reported the issue of being transferred from his party to another party to the Elections Commission, they said they would look into it and resolve it. To date, it has not been resolved by the commission.
The MDP lawmaker said that in addition to him, many residents of his constituency have also been added to the ruling party.
Further noting that he was registered with PNC through theft without his knowledge under any circumstances, and that it was a direct theft, the parliamentarian stressed that this happened on 23 December 2024.
Stressing that he doesn’t know how it happened, Fittey revealed that he found himself registered at PNC when he woke up one day and that several members of his constituency were transferred to PNC on the same day.
The MDP lawmaker revealed that EC assured they would fix it when he reached out to them, but that a solution hasn’t been reached yet.
The form also bears a fingerprint and signature in the MDP lawmaker's name.
The MDP lawmaker said this is a huge deception and that he will file a case regarding the unauthorized use of his personal information, forged signature, and fingerprint to change his party affiliation without his knowledge.
The MDP lawmaker has been registered at PNC using his personal information and a forged signature in his name at a time many people have been added to PNC without their knowledge. As such, multiple complaints have surfaced about people being added to PNC without their knowledge. There have also been reports of state resources being misused to recruit people into PNC.
