Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau has stated that cybercrime victims are facing irreparable and devastating losses, and that the society needs to be aware of this growing issue.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Cyber Expo 2024, which is being held to establish a safe digital environment through collaboration and to familiarize the general public with cyber security, CP Shujau said that cybercrime victims are suffering excessive losses, with data being lost and irreparable damage being done. He added that this results in many hardships in people's lives.
Highlighting the need for everyone to work together to prevent this, CP Shujau said that the relationship between government ministries, private companies, various organizations, and educational institutions needs to be strengthened more than it is now.
He also stated that the goal of Maldivians today should be to introduce new professionals in the field of cyber security and to foster a love for this field.
At Thursday’s ceremony, a robot called "Rihi Kakuni" – roughly translated means “Silver Crab” – prepared by five students from Ghiyasuddin International School in collaboration with Maldives Women in Tech, was showcased.
The Cyber Expo being held at Hulhumalé Central Park is an expo open to government institutions, companies, private companies, and professionals. The expo is being held to establish a safe digital environment through collaboration and to familiarize the general public with cyber security.
Organized by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, the National Center for Information Technology, and the National Cyber Security Agency, the expo is being conducted with the assistance of many parties.
In addition to CP Shujau, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, Deputy Commissioner of Police Faruhad Fikuree, foreign ambassadors, senior police officers, and heads of various ministries participated in Thursday’s ceremony.
