The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into the transactions related to acquiring a building to run the office of the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), in connection with the ongoing discussions about the matter.
NSPA submitted the case to ACC on November 29, requesting an investigation into the corruption allegations made against the agency.
Speaking to RaajjeMV regarding the case, an official at the commission revealed that the case has now been accepted and the investigation has begun. However, no further details were disclosed.
NSPA stated that some news outlets are spreading false information about acquiring a building to run the agency.
NSPA stressed that misinformation is being spread in a way that raises concerns and doubts among the public about such an institution related to social protection of citizens and the integrity of its employees. NSPA has requested that a full independent investigation be disclosed to the public as soon as possible. They have also requested that the investigation report be shared as soon as possible.
RaajjeMV’s attempts to obtain information about the case through calls and texts to Chief Spokesperson of the President's Office and NSPA CEO Heena Waleed were unsuccessful as she failed to respond.
Major allegations have been made against the agency, claiming that a MVR 34.8 million transaction was made with a party other than the property owner to acquire an office building to run NSPA. It has also been alleged that the rent for the building housing the newly launched channel "MMTV" is being arranged through NSPA. Some people on social media have also claimed that two floors have been allocated to NSPA and the remaining two floors to the TV station.
Several members of the public have been criticizing and alleging that NSPA has turned into a major hub of corruption, after the case surfaced.
