An investigation has been launched into a case where five officials of Maldives Immigration are suspected of illegally conducting activities related to foreigners and obtaining money through illicit means.

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan on Thursday stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has instructed to take the strictest legal measures against those who, while being part of uniformed institutions, violate the dignity of the uniform and erode public trust in these institutions.

Minister Ihusan stated that upon receiving information about a case where five Immigration officers are suspected of illegally conducting activities related to foreigners and obtaining money illicitly from several parties, an investigation has been launched through the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

Stressing that the current administration will not tolerate such actions in any way, Minister Ihusan said that in this case, electronic devices used by the suspected individuals have been confiscated, and their residences have been raided and searched.

Minister Ihusan noted that further details of the case will be disclosed as the investigation unfolds, in collaboration with the police and other relevant authorities.

Further, the minister has urged those in trusted positions to refrain from actions that could undermine the trust in state institutions.

At a time an investigation has been launched into the case of five immigration officers being involved in corruption, the Immigration department has earned widespread praise and trust from several due to its proactive operations to address the issue of foreigners residing illegally in the Maldives.
