The Maldives Meteorological Service has warned that the weather conditions across the entire Maldives will worsen over the next five days beginning Wednesday due to the formation of a low-pressure system.
In a press release issued on Monday, MMS revealed that a depression over the Bay of Bengal is anticipated to intensify and move northwestward within the next 24 hours.
Further, the low-pressure system is likely to continue its northwestward trajectory towards Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.
The weather department has confirmed the presence of a low-pressure area situated to the far southeast of the Maldives.
According to the department, the combined effects of these systems will result in strong winds impacting the country starting Wednesday and persisting for the next five days.
During this period, average winds are projected to reach 15 to 25 miles per hour in southern atolls and 13 to 23 miles per hour in central and northern atolls.
Further, seas are expected to be rough throughout the entire country.
MMS has urged caution from seafarers, urging them to exercise caution during this period.
The public is also advised to take appropriate precautionary measures to minimize the potential impact and damage from the strong winds and rough seas.
