A police officer who threatened to leak intimate pictures of his lover has been arrested and remanded.
On Thursday, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) said that a case was filed alleging that Zaidan Mohamed, 19 and native to Mathiveri island of Alif Alif atoll had threatened to leak his lover’s intimate pictures and videos online on social media.
The 19-year-old is accused of intimidating, threatening and blackmailing the woman.
MPS said that Zaidan is a recruit officer and that he was arrested on November 13 under a court order in connection with the case.
Upon being presented to the Mathiveri Magistrate Court for a remand hearing on Thursday, the suspect was remanded for three days.
Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
