The Maldivian government and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) have collaborated to launch the “Ozone2Climate Technology Expo 2017”.

The exposition, held annually since Maldives signed a convention on reducing Hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) emissions in 2011, was inaugurated on Monday by Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim.  This year’s expo will be held from 14th to 16th August.

Every year several traders promote refrigerators and other electronics that are emit low carbons. Companies from Europe, Japan, India, Singapore, and China are taking part this year.

Representatives from the UNEP are to hold an “Industry Dialogue” with companies in the local fishing industry, where they will discuss environment-friendly options available to operators in fishing – such as the use of low-carbon refrigeration and storing.
