The Labour Relations Authority (LRA) has been reassigned to the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu reached the decision on Wednesday.

The President’s Office revealed that the transfer was instructed by the president by the powers vested to him under Section 116 of the Maldives’ Constitution.

The decision has been in effect since 6 August 2024.

President Muizzu decided to reassign LRA to the purview of the home ministry following recommendations from his Cabinet of Ministers.

The cabinet recently deliberated on resolving issues regarding undocumented expatriate workers, at a meeting.

LRA was under the purview of the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, earlier.

Following the change, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan on Wednesday visited the Labour Relations Authority and interacted with officials at the authority.

He inquired about the progress of LRA's work, at Wednesday's meeting.
