Dr. Mariyam Zulfa has been sacked as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Local Government Authority (LGA) and appointed as a Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

Zulfa has confirmed her dismissal from LGA and appointment to the ministry to RaajjeMV.

She stated that she was not given a reason for the dismissal.

However, Zulfa stated that she would “respect” President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s decision and continue to serve the nation.

Zulfa was appointed as CEO of LGA on 26 December 2023.

She served as a tourism ministry during the administration of former president Mohamed Nasheed.

Zulfa was a member of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) earlier.

However, she joined the now ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) after Muizzu came into power.
