The main-ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has secured three seats in the Malé City Council by-elections.

RaajjeMV understands that PNC won the Hulhumalé constituency west-Henveiru constituency as well as the central Mahchangoalhi constituency during Saturday’s by-elections.

Elected to the Hulhumalé seat was Ali Aiman, who contested through a PNC ticket.

He went up against Ahmed Rasheed, the contestant from former-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

PNC’s candidate Fathimath Ishan Ali won the seat for central Mahchangoalhi constituency against Hawwa Shifana.

PNC candidate Fathimath Shaufa Saleem won the west Henveiru seat and MDP’s candidate Mohamed Ali Jinad fell short.

PNC candidate Ibrahim Ahmed was elected to the north Kulhudhuffushi constituency in the by-elections.

The ruling party’s candidate Areesh Ismail won the Bilehdhoo seat.

Some of the constituencies saw only one candidate contesting, during Saturday’s polls.

These seats automatically went to the only candidates that competed, all of whom were PNC candidates as well.

Mohamed Sunny was elected president of Lhaviyani Atoll Council, Abdulla Samih as Hulhudhuffaaru council member and Fathimath Moosa as member of the Hinnavaru Women's Development Committee (WDC).
