The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has urged cautious over three widespreading contagious diseases.

The public health authority recently revealed that three highly contagious diseases are presently spreading, mostly across the Greater Malé Region.

The number of reported cases of Conjunctivitis had reduced in the past week as compared to the previous week.

HPA revealed that the greatest number of Conjunctivitis cases were reported from the Greater Malé Region, Laamu atoll and Fuvahmulah City.

The public health authority’s statistics revealed that 407 cases of Conjunctivitis were recorded between June 23 – 29 and the number dropped to 337 between June 30 – July 7.

However, the number of confirmed cases of chickenpox has increased in the past week as compared to the previous week.

Most of the cases of chickenpox were reported from the Greater Malé Region, Lhaviyani atoll and southernmost Seenu atoll.

Statistics revealed that 94 cases of chickenpox were recorded between June 23 – 29 and the number surged to 107 between June 30 – July 7.

In addition to this, the number of reported cases of hand, foot and mouth disease has been higher in the past week than in the previous week.

The greatest number of hand, foot and mouth disease were reported from the Greater Malé Region and Alif Dhaal atoll.

HPA revealed that 11 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease were recorded between June 23 – 29 and the number surged to 35 between June 30 – July 7.

As there have been outbreaks of several diseases of recent, HPA has urged the public to practice precautions in order to prevent the diseases from spreading further.

The public has been advised not to go to crowded places if they exhibit any symptoms of fever.
