An arrest has been made in a drug operation conducted in Villingili island of Gaaf Alif atoll.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the operation was conducted jointly by the police Intelligence Unit and the Villingili Police Station.
It was conducted on June 4, under a court order.
The operation stemmed from an intel report received that drugs were being smuggling via a boat en route from capital Malé City.
The drugs were being smuggled on a cargo boat that was en route to the island from the capital city, according to authorities.
Officers that raided the boat found a small packet filled with suspected narcotics.
Arrested in connection with the case was a 48-year-old Maldivian man.
Further investigations are currently underway, in connection with the case.
