Palestine’s admission to the World Health Organization (WHO) is a sign of increased global support for the full statehood of Palestine, says President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

He said this in a post on social media platform ‘X’ on Sunday.

As such, he revealed that the government of Maldives has welcomed the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA77)’s decision to align the participation of the State of Palestine in the assembly, with its participation in the United Nations (UN).

Maldives was among the 101 countries that voted in favor of the resolution and enhanced the rights of Palestine at WHO.

This, the Maldivian leader said is a sign of increased global support for the full statehood of Palestine.

President Muizzu said that the decision to support the resolution stemmed from the strong support of the Maldivian citizens, for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, for statehood as well as their full membership in international organizations.

The president expressed belief that this was an essential step towards enduring peace.

Maldives has and always will stand in steadfast solidarity with the people of Palestine, in their pursuit for an independent sovereign state of Palestine.

Maldives continues to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire of the crimes of genocide being committed by Israel.

The WHO's decision making body WHA voted at the 77th annual gathering of WHO's member states held on Friday, which saw the approval of a draft resolution on aligning the participation of Palestine in the WHO with its participation in the United Nations (UN).
