President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is to attend the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

This was revealed by Chief Spokesperson at the President's Office Heena Waleed on Thursday.

Heena revealed that the president will be departing to attend the conference, on Friday night.

The visit was announced during a press conference regarding the Fourth International Conference on SIDS with Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim, and Special Envoy for Climate Change Ali Shareef, at the President's Office on Thursday.

Discussions were held on the importance of the conference as well as the administration’s key objectives for the people and the country.

In addition to this, details were shared on the three side events organized by the Maldives, alongside the important events organized by relevant government institutions at the SIDS.

The Fourth International Conference on SIDS is scheduled to take place in Antigua and Barbuda from May 27 – 30.

The conference is themed "Charting the Course Towards Resilient Prosperity."

This year’s SIDS conference will revolve around clearing a path for small, environmentally fragile nations to attain sustainability and prosperity.

The International Conference on SIDS is held by the United Nations (UN) every 10 years.

The Maldivian leader will be delivering the national statement at the conference.

Further, he will deliver a statement regarding the effects of climate change and the significance and urgency of taking measures to mitigate them.
