Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed has presented his credentials as the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations.
Dr. Naseer presented his Letter of Credence to Secretary-General António Guterres on Wednesday, as the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN.
The ceremony was held at the UN Headquarters in New York, U.S.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Naseer conveyed greetings and warm regards from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, to the UNSG and expressed the Maldivian government’s intent to continue working closely with the United Nations.
President Muizzu appointed Ambassador Naseer as the new Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN on 7 May 2024.
Before his appointment, Dr. Naseer served as Ambassador at Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He also led the Transition Committee on Foreign Relations before Muizzu was sworn in on 17 November 2023.
Since joining the foreign service of Maldives back in May 1985, Dr. Naseer has filled multiple positions in the service, both at the headquarters and at missions overseas.
Some of the key positions he held include Director-General for External Resources, Director-General for Political Affairs, Additional Secretary for Policy Planning, Foreign Secretary of the Maldives, Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador to Canada, Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2017 – 2019 and as a Multilateral Secretary.
Dr. Naseer holds a PhD in International Relations from the Australian National University, MA from Leicester University, United Kingdom, and a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Sydney, Australia.
