62,232 tourist beds are in operation

The number of tourist facilities that are currently operational across the Maldives has risen to 1,182.
This was revealed by the latest weekly statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism on Thursday.
As such, the ministry’s figures revealed that as of April 30, the number of operational tourist accommodation facilities across the Maldives sat at 1,182.
The guesthouses span across 113 islands of 20 atolls, with hotels operational in nine islands of eight atolls. 69 percent of the bed capacity is occupied by resorts, followed by 23 percent occupied by guesthouses, five percent by safari vessels and three percent by hotels.
Presently, a total of 62,232 tourist beds are in operation across these facilities, which include 176 resorts, 844 guesthouses, 15 hotels and 147 live-aboard vessels.
The beds operational across these facilities include 43,224 in resorts, 2,016 in hotels, 14,169 in guesthouses and 2,823 in live-aboard vessels.
Maldives currently has a capacity of 1,187 tourist facilities which include 147 safari vessels, 844 guesthouses, 15 hotels and 181 resorts. This means that of the total facility capacity, five resorts have yet to resume operations.
The ministry introduced Homestay in the Maldives in January 2022. Since then, a few more homestay facilities have been opened. This came under former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s tourism development vision and policy to make tourism and its benefits accessible to the island communities as well.
