Senior MACL employee arrested in drug bust, released
 
Arrested were a Pakistani national, two MACL staff and a man who arrived to collect the luggage

A senior employee of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), who was arrested in a drug bust alongside others, has been granted conditional bail.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that a luggage containing Heroin and Methamphetamine (Meth) weighing over 4.5 kilograms, was being smuggled from Velana International Airport (VIA) on March 15, against the law.

A Pakistani national, two MACL employees and a man who arrived at the airport to collect the luggage, were arrested in connection with the case.

Upon being presented to the Criminal Court to extend his remand on Saturday, the senior MACL staff, believed to have been the leader of this operation, was released on bail.

MPS revealed that he was released on bail, in light of evidence submitted against them.

The police institution revealed that the case is being investigated as a high-profile criminal probe.

As the case involves several MACL employees, the police institution is conducting the investigation as a serious case.
