Council members of Mulah island of Meemu atoll have requested the government to expedite the commencement of a shore protection project on the island as quickly as possible.
This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the island’s council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members on Wednesday.
Discussions at the meeting revolved around the urgent needs and concerns of the island community, including the need for an upgrade to the island’s health center, making ATM services available, expediting a harbor expansion project as well as the need to establish sports facilities on the island to fulfil the wishes of the youth community.
Councilors went on to share the challenges caused due to the destruction of the island’s old jetty.
The meeting also saw the island’s WDC members requesting the government to increase their allowances and sharing the challenges surfaced due to inadequate conditions to work in.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured the members that his administration would address the issues raised by the council and seek solutions to tackle them, through consultations with relevant authorities.
