The government is to incorporate Maaddoo Island into the jurisdiction of Eydhafushi Island Council in Baa atoll.

This was revealed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, while speaking to residents of Eydhafushi island as part of his ongoing brief tour of islands in Baa and Raa atolls.

Highlighting that the necessary documents would be finalized and promptly handed over to the council within the week, Muizzu explained that this is being done because the government finds it inconvenient to further reclaim land in Eydhafushi.

The president noted that the solution to address challenges surfacing for the community due to land shortage, is to incorporate an additional island under the island’s jurisdiction.

Addressing the housing difficulties facing the island community, Muizzu stated that his administration would prioritize the island under the plans to build 40,000 housing units in regions other than the capital, Greater Malé Region.

Shedding light on the development of seven specific regions as urban centers intended to benefit a large number of citizens, the president identified Eydhafushi as one of the seven urban centers slated for development.

Further, the president expressed his commitment to develop the island further.

Eydhafushi was the fifth destination of the president’s ongoing tour of several islands in Raa and Baa atolls.
