Members of Haa Dhaal Atoll Councilors have shared their development vision for the atoll by 2040, with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
This was done during a meeting the president held with the Haa Dhaal atoll councilors on Monday.
The meeting saw councilors briefing the president on their vision for development, including for tourism as well as the establishment of a regional port.
They also requested assistance from the government to attract investors for the progress of the atoll and expressed concern over the issue of not having a designated island to govern the atoll.
President Muizzu was also briefed on the need to conduct a pilot programme to advance the fishing industry in Haa Dhaal atoll.
Listening to these concerns, the president encouraged the atoll council to create a development plan that would benefit all the islands in the atoll and shared the initiatives the government has planned in a bid to improve the country’s economy.
Further, he announced that electricity bills of mosques will be charged at domestic rates from March 2024 onwards, in a bid to assist budgetary constraints facing the council.
The meeting also saw members of the president’s Cabinet of Ministers, accompanying the President, providing updates on the government’s efforts to address the concerns raised.
