The government has announced plans to link Gadhdhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll, to Maavarulu Airport by land.

This was announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, while speaking to residents of the island on Wednesday, as part of his tour of some islands in the south of Maldives which he began on Sunday morning.

Taking the podium at the meeting, Muizzu announced plans to establish a land connection between the island and Maavarulu Airport.

Shedding light on the necessity for multiple development initiatives for the island’s progress, Muizzu stated that land reclamation is a serious concern facing the community.

He committed to implement the requisite project within his five-year term.

Muizzu also assured the island residents that his administration would prioritize and fast-track the project to construct a hospital on the island.

The meeting also saw the president urging the residents to support his administration’s efforts to execute development projects on the island, and urged those in positions of authority to honor their oath and serve the island community equitably, irrespective of their political beliefs.

Noting that all elected officials bear a responsibility, the president urged them to carry out their duties with utmost sincerity and integrity.

Highlighting that political ideologies should not obstruct them from carrying out their responsibilities dutifully, the president assured that his administration remains committed to honor the pledges he has made.

Muizzu also noted that his administration would prioritize the development of the nation and the improvement of the income of citizens.
