President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has concluded his tour of some islands of Thaa atoll.
The president concluded his trip and returned to capital Malé City on Thursday.
The first destination of the president’s visit was Guraidhoo island, where he received the highest percentage of votes in the presidential elections of 2023. Even at the time Muizzu had said that he would visit Guraidhoo first, as the president of Maldives.
On his first tour into the atolls President Muizzu also travelled to Dhiyamigili, Madifushi, Veymandoo, Buruni, Kandoodhoo, Vandhoo, Omadhoo, Kinbidhoo, and Gaadhiffushi Islands in Thaa Atoll.
As part of these visits, the president held meetings with residents, councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) of the respective islands.
In addition to this, the president held meetings with members the councils and WDCs of Vilufushi, Hirilandhoo, and Thimarafushi islands.
Speaking to residents and council members at these islands, the president shed light on the complex economic and financial situation facing the country.
Muizzu urged island councils to prioritize and submit a list of development projects, in order of significance, to ensure that the administration prioritizes the most important projects for respective islands.
Shedding light on the administration's measures towards improving the island nation’s economic situation, the president detailed that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has endorsed the administration’s economic agenda to ease the economic hardship.
As part of the visit, Muizzu also held discussions regarding relevant development concerns of island communities. He also inquired about the urgent needs and desires of the island communities across Thaa atoll.
The president has pledged to collaborate closely with the island communities and conduct regular visit to islands.
A high-level delegation of government officials accompanies the president on the tour of Thaa atoll.
