The Vice Minister of the International Department of the Chinese Communist Party, Sun Haiyan has paid a courtesy call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The meeting took place at the President's Office on Monday morning.
The President's Office disclosed that the meeting focused on exploring ways to promptly implement agreements signed during the President's recent state visit to China.
As such, during the meeting, the Chinese Vice Minister stated that all relevant authorities are eager to collaborate with their Maldivian counterparts under the leadership of the Chinese President Xi Jinping.
She expressed interest in strengthening strategic bilateral relations and offering training possibilities for Maldivians in various fields.
During Monday's meeting, the Maldivian President expressed his gratitude to China for the training opportunities and other avenues of support for Maldivians.
He also conveyed his eagerness to implement the agreements signed between the two countries.
Furthermore, President Muizzu and the Chinese Vice Minister reviewed the recent success of direct flights between the Maldives and China and the possibility of extending direct flights from several Chinese cities to the Maldives.
Discussions were also held on improving city-to-city relations between the Maldives and China.
Concluding the call, President Muizzu and the Chinese Vice Minister deliberated on future collaborations and fortifying ties between the Maldives and China.
During his recent state visit to China, the Maldives and China has exchanged twenty key agreements, marking a significant step in bilateral relations.
The 20 key agreements were exchanged in the presence of President Dr. Muizzu and President Xi Jinping, following official talks between the two countries, on Wednesday, at the Great Hall of People in Beijing.
Upon his return to the Maldives after concluding his state visit to China, President Muizzu corroborated that the longstanding China-Maldives relations are built upon an exemplary model of mutual respect.
The President stated that China-Maldives relations are based upon four principles: mutual respect, sovereign equality, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal matters.
President Muizzu remarked that China respects the territorial sovereignty of the Maldives just as the Maldives fully accept China's One China policy.
