Gov’t discloses expenses of VP’s trip to Geneva, China

The government has disclosed the expenses incurred during Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef’s recent official visits to Geneva, Switzerland and the People’s Republic of China.

The incumbent administration disclosed the expenses of the VP’s official trips during a press conference held on Thursday, as per the presidential pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

VP Latheef made the trips to participate in the high-level event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Human Rights 75) and to attend the ‘China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Development Cooperation’ organized by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), respectively.

The trips were from December 4 – 14.

Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office Mohamed Shahyb revealed that the total cost of the vice president’s trips to Geneva and China was at MVR 3,189,544.58.

The expenses include the total ticket cost for the two visits which was priced at MVR 2,413,029.54.

The VP’s trip to China cost a total of MVR 180,735.90 and all the arrangements for the accommodation, food, and domestic travel expenses for the VP and his delegation were made by the government of China.

Shahyb noted that the total cost of the VP’s visit to Geneva was MVR 595,779.14.

The president earlier asserted that he would not travel first class during overseas trips. He stated that the vice president would also refrain from traveling first class.

President Muizzu had earlier pledged to disclose the costs incurred on his overseas trip within 15 days following the conclusion of his overseas visit.
