Those who worked against the party's presidential candidate, during the 2023 Presidential Election will not be given the party's ticket for the upcoming parliamentary election, says Deputy Chairman of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Ibrahim Waheed.
Waheed made this statement during a presser held on Saturday to announce the opportunity to run for the 2024 parliamentary election on the party's ticket.
During the presser, the requirements for anyone wishing to run on the MDP ticket were made public. These include being a member of MDP and meeting all the requirements stipulated in Article 73 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives and Article 8 of the Parliamentary Elections Act.
Waheed stated that factors to be taken into account include the services provided by the candidate to the party, duration as a member of the party, as well as the guidelines outlined in the party rules. He noted that if the candidate had worked against the MDP presidential candidate or the party's principles, they will be investigated.
Waheed stated that those who worked against the party's presidential candidate, during the 2023 Presidential Election will not be given the party's ticket for the upcoming parliamentary election.
The party has also requested interested candidates to submit their criminal records along with their application form.
The party has also requested all those interested in running for the parliamentary election on its ticket to express their interest through Google Form.
MDP opened up the opportunity to run for the 2024 parliament election on the party's ticket on 16 December 2023. The deadline for applications is 25 December 2023, 04:00 pm.
