President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has attended the Opening Ceremony of the World Leaders Summit hosted as part of the Twenty-Eighth Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

The Opening Ceremony of the World Leaders Summit was hosted by the Presidency of the UAE.

President Muizzu was joined by Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim and Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer at the ceremony.

The Maldivian leader is scheduled to deliver the National Statement at the World Leaders Summit, marking his first major address on a global platform since assuming office two weeks ago.

COP28 holds significant importance to the Maldives, as it paves the way for opportunities to hold discussions regarding the island nation’s ambitions for global sustainable development and adaptation for climate change mitigation.

COP28 is being held in the UAE and will proceed through December 12.

The conference is anticipated to convene over 70,000 participants including heads of state, government officials, international industry leaders, private sector representatives, academics, experts, youth, and non-state actors.
