A hearing scheduled in relation of 119 kilograms of drug seized by the Maldives Police Service, last December has been held at the Criminal Court.

The hearing was held on Monday morning.

An operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department of Police on 12 December 2021, in Male' and Hulhumale' saw officers confiscating 119 kilograms of illicit substances from a taxi a car and a motorcycle.

Maldives Police Service revealed that the the drug confiscated from the taxi was smuggled into Male' from the sea vessel "Bangaa", on the same day.

Charges were raised against three persons. Charges were raised against G.Dh. Hoadehdhoo, Irumatheege, Ahmed Sunain, G.Dh. Hoadehdhoo, Guleynooranmaage, Ali Zubair, G.Dh. Hoadehdhoo, Alora Ahmed Mujaahir in suspect of trafficking Diamorphine.

However the three of them denied the charges raised against them.

Presiding over the case is Judge Ibrahim Ihsaan.

The prosecution's witnesses are currently testifying during the hearings. Many of the witnesses have already testified in earlier hearings.

At Monday's hearing, the first witness to testify stated he had no memory of the case. Hence, the court presented his statement to the investigation. However, the witness reiterated that he does not remember much about the incident.

The next two witnesses included police officers involved in the investigation of the case.

According to witnesses, an intelligence report was received that Sunain and Zubair were transporting drugs in a taxi. They noted that the taxi was stopped and searched and drugs were recovered from the back of the taxi.

Maldives Police Service revealed that the the drug confiscated from the taxi was smuggled into Male' from the sea vessel "Bangaa", on the same day.

Police found DNA samples from a box and bag in the back of the car and two pieces of evidence outside the car door. Following that, they searched Mujahid's home and took evidence from their as well.

Furthermore, a motorcycle that was being driven by Ali Zubair and another individual was searched near Mary Brown. Drugs were recovered from the motorcycle as well.

With this hearing, testimonies of all witnesses of prosecution has been taken.
