Member of Parliament for Alifushi Island in Raa Atoll, Mohamed Rasheed Hussain, has been elected Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Parliamentary Group (PG) leader.
MDP on Saturday, has announced the permanent results of the election held to elect the new leader of the PG.
The election was held on 22 November 2023, following the resignation of the former PG leader, MP for North Hithadhoo constituency Mohamed Aslam. Aslam’s resignation from the post of MDP PG leader comes at a time he was elected as the new Speaker of Parliament.
The election's results shows that MP Mohamed Rasheed Hussain won a total of 28 votes. MP for Kurendhoo constituency Abdul Ghanee Abdul-hakeem won two votes and MP for Kaashidoo constituency, Abdullah Jaabir won 20 votes.
A total of 51 votes were cast in the election. The number of valid votes was 50 and one invalid vote was counted.
