Maldives Customs and Male' Water and Sewerage Company Ltd. (MWSC) has donated than MVR 700,000 to support the people of Palestine.

Customs and MWSC donated the money to the Palestine Relief Fund run by the Maldives Red Crescent.

As such, MWSC donated MVR 500,000 to the fund. A special ceremony was held on Wednesday, where the Managing Director of the company, Hassan Shah handed over the donation to the MRC.

MWSC said it is an honor to donate money to help the Palestinian people during this difficult time. The company notes that this aid, is a symbol of the Maldivian solidarity with the Palestine.

MWSC has also put up a poster outside the company's headquarters calling for an end to Israeli attacks on Gaza.

The Maldives Customs Service donated MVR 200,000 to the Palestine Relief Fund run by the Maldives Red Crescent. As such, a special ceremony was held on Thursday, where the Deputy Commissioner of Customs, Mahmood Riyaz handed over the donation to the MRC.

MRC announced its completion of the initial tranche of Palestine Relief Fund and its closure on November 12.

MRC in mid-October opened the emergency appeal to donate funds to Palestine Red Crescent, in support of their response and relief efforts in the wake of the rapidly escalating Humanitarian Crisis in the Gaza Strip.

The Maldivian Red Crescent revealed that the funds raised in the emergency appeal, will be directed to the Preliminary Emergency Appeal launched by the Palestine Red Crescent on October 10.

It was targeted towards the delivery of humanitarian assistance such as the provision of first aid and health services, fuel and essential supplies for the operation of humanitarian facilities, transfer of the sick and wounded, the provision of clean water, sanitation and hygiene, shelter, basic relief items including food, clothing and household essentials, protection and community engagement to the most vulnerable.

MRC will be announcing the final amount of funds received through donations, on November 19.

MRC revealed that the funds transferred will be utilized by Palestinian Red Crescent Society for the on-going response efforts and provision of critical humanitarian activities in accordance with their emergency appeal.

MRC expressed commitment to efforts to ensure complete transparency and accountability for all the donations received and assured that they would share timely updates with the public on the transfer and utilization of the funds to help those in need in Palestine.

Israel has been attacking the Gaza Strip of Palestine since 07th October. The attacks has been escalating without any sign of ceasefire. The death toll of Palestinians has since risen to more than 12,500 and more than 6,000 of the victims are children.
