The government of Maldives has urged the international community to ensure the opening of humanitarian corridors to facilitate the imperative supply of medicines, food supplies and basic needs to the Gaza Strip.

In a statement publicized on Saturday, the Maldivian government strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli military aggression against innocent civilians in the Gaza Strip and the Israeli military demand that 1.2 million civilians in northern Gaza relocate to its south within 24 hours.

The statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads that the Maldives urges the international community to use all possible measures to stop the ongoing heinous attacks against the innocent civilians in Palestine and to ensure humanitarian corridors to facilitate the imperative supply of medicines, food supplies and basic needs to the Gaza Strip is swiftly opened.

Stressing that the absence of any guarantees of safety or return this would amount to the war crime of forcible transfer, the government highlighted that this must be reversed and that the indiscriminate attacks are already taking hundreds of innocent lives of Palestinians including women and children and wounding thousand more lives.

The Maldivian government stressed that the inhumane attacks have destroyed critical infrastructure including hospitals and schools, United Nations facilities, residential buildings, and Mosques.

Highlighting that the archipelago nation dubs these deliberate acts of aggression against the innocent civilians of Palestine as a “blatant” disregard and violation of international humanitarian law, equivalent to a war crime.

On behalf of the government and people of Maldives, the ministry has reiterated commitment and “unconditional” support to the people of Palestine in their legitimate pursuit to attain their inalienable rights, including the right to self-determination.

Maldives went on to reiterate belief that a lasting and sustainable solution to the conflict, can only be possible through the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
