The development of Maafaru International Airport will be completed by year end, says Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Adam Azim.

Azim made this statement while speaking on RaajjeTV's 'Manifesto' program.

Speaking on the program, Azim stated that the development project of Maafaru International Airport will be completed by 31 December 2023.

Noting that the airport development project is well underway, Azim stated that the Maafaru International Airport will be handed over to the island residents by year end.

Azim highlighted that the development project of Maafaru Airport is the biggest project MTCC has undertaken so far.

Azim said that this is an important project for MTCC and the entire country. As such, he noted that the existing 2.2 kilometer runway will be extended to 2.85 kilometer and the runway will be resurfaced.

MTCC was contracted the expansion and development of Maafaru International Airport on 08 December, 2022.

The value of the project is USD 27.1 million.

Azim went onto note that airport development projects are underway in different parts of the country. As such, he noted that development works of five airports are currently on going.

He stated that the airports built with public funds will make the public happy. As such, Azim stated that the airports are being developed to the same degree as or even better than the public expects.
