Several government agencies have officially begun using the Government E-letter Management System (GEMS) Workspace.
In a directive issued on Thursday, the President’s Office revealed that some government agencies have commenced the use of the GEMS Workspace, officially.
Vice President Faisal Naseem inaugurated the latest iteration of the Government E-letter Management System (GEMS) on 30 May 2023, as a new digital platform introduced by the government.
A standalone solution that does not necessitate additional support software, the GEMS Workspace can be used by businesses, non-governmental organizations as well as the public to engage in correspondence with the government to exchange information.
The GEMS Workspace has been adopted by several government bodies including the President’s Office, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology, National Center for Information Technology (NCIT), Secretariat of the Fuvahmulah City Council, Secretariat of Kudafari Island Council as well as the Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH).
These government bodies will be utilizing the software to correspond with private submissions.
There will be three phases to implementing the GEMS Workspace.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has instructed government agencies and state institutions to collaborate with the NCIT in facilitating the implementation of the GEMS Workspace within their respective agencies.
An endeavor by the government to establish a digital government system, the GEMS Workspace is a crucial platform that ensures uninterrupted service provision by offices beyond regular working hours.
Further, it will support the government's target to establish itself as a model smart nation.
VP Naseem stated that the updated GEMS Workspace will have a transformative impact on enhancing the government's service delivery efficiency, during the inauguration ceremony back in May.
