President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated several more development projects which have been completed in different islands of Meemu atoll.
The president inaugurated these projects as part of his ongoing campaign tour of Meemu and Vaavu atolls, which he began on Saturday.
Some of the completed projects that were inaugurated on Saturday include the new powerhouse and FENAKA office in Naalaafushi island as well as a water supply network in Muli island.
The Naalaafushi powerhouse and FENAKA office were modernized to a capacity of 538 kilowatts.
The office can accommodate up to 15 employees at a time.
The new powerhouse was constructed a safe distance from the residential area of the island, unlike the previous powerhouse.
As part of the trip, President Solih also attended a ceremony to mark the completion of the water supply project in Muli, which was taken on by S.M.C. Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd and funded under the USD 800 million line of credit extended by the Exim Bank of neighboring India.
Some other projects inaugurated as part of the trip include the coastal protection project, a water supply network as well as a new multipurpose hall and eight classrooms at Meemu Atoll School, in Kolhufushi island.
The Kolhufushi coastal protection project was contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and financed through the Green Fund.
The scope of the project includes the construction of revetments, breakwaters, beach improvements, and the establishment of a swimming beach.
As such, revetments were built on the northeast and western sides of the island measuring 136.6 meters and 382.2 meters respectively
Further, the water supply network project was contracted to S.M.C. Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd.
The multipurpose hall and eight classrooms in the Meemu Atoll School were constructed by Swift Engineering Pvt. Ltd.
The Maldivian leader departed on Saturday, on the three-day campaign tour, as part of his campaign for re-election in the upcoming Presidential election.
The president’s campaign tour of Meemu and Vaavu atolls, will conclude on July 17.
He visited four islands of Meemu atoll including Kolhufushi, Naalaafushi, Muli and Mulah.
During these visits the president will be holding discussions with the island communities regarding their needs and the issues they are currently facing.
In Vaavu atoll, President Solih will visit Rakeedhoo, Keyodhoo, Felidhoo, Thinadhoo and Fulidhoo, where again he will be holding discussions with the island communities regarding their needs and requirements.
So far, the Maldivian leader has embarked on campaign tours across Shaviyani and most recently, Kaafu atoll.
