Foreign Secretary Ahmed Latheef has joined a High-Level Strategic Dialogue held to commemorate the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA)’s 25th anniversary.

Latheef participated in the High-Level Strategic Dialogue on IORA’s 25-Years: Reflection, Review, and Renewal, on Tuesday.

It was held as part of IORA’s Silver Jubilee celebrations to reflect and review the past 25 years of IORA, acknowledge successes, address challenges, and assess the implementation of outcomes.

It was held in Mauritius from June 20 – 22.

Senior level officials from Member States of IORA and other stakeholders involved in IORA were brought together under one roof as part of the dialogue.

Participants at the dialogue reiterated their commitment to achieve objectives and aims.

The meeting saw the “IORA Vision 2030 and beyond” drafted. The draft will be considered by IORA Member States before it is presented to the Council of Ministers in October this year, in Sri Lanka.

Established in 1997, IORA is a leading intergovernmental organization which carries the purpose of enhancing regional and socio-economic cooperation and development within the Indian Ocean Region.

The Maldives formally joined IORA in November 2019 as its 22nd Member State.
