Maldives has strongly condemned the violent attacks carried out by Israeli forces in the West Bank City of Jenin.

The government issued a statement late Monday, condemning the violent attacks in Jenin which have led to five fatalities including a minor.

Several other innocent civilians were injured in the hostile attacks.

The people of Maldives join the government in extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the Israeli aggression and hope for the swift recovery of the injured victims.

The government expressed deep concern by the “disproportionate” and “excessive” use of force by the Israeli forces on unarmed civilians including women and children in the occupied Palestinian territories.

In its statement, the government also reiterated its resilient position that finding long-lasting peace in the Middle East, rests with reaching a two-state solution, with the establishment of an independent and sovereign state of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.

The government and people of Maldives stand in firm solidarity with the people of Palestine in their legitimate struggle for self-determination.

Reuters reported that the raid of the West Bank city led to a gunbattle with armed fighters that was drawn out for hours, killing five and wounding more than 90 individuals.

Reuters cited the military having stated that eight Israeli personnel were wounded after troops came under fire during an operation in the flashpoint city of Jenin to arrest two Palestinians suspected to have carried-out attacks.
