The Government of Maldives has condemned the storming and vandalism of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Khartoum, Sudan.
In a statement made public by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, the Maldivian government, condemned the act of sabotaging the residences of Saudi staff working in the embassy which violate the sanctity and safety of the headquarters of diplomatic missions and their employees, in addition to condemning the storming and vandalism of the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Khartoum.
The Government of Maldives stressed on the importance of protecting diplomatic headquarters and their residences, and the need to stop all forms of violence targeting their employees, which are in clear violation of international law and diplomatic norms.
The statement read that such attacks undermine the efforts by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the international community, and the concerned parties to find a peaceful solution to the conflict.
The Government of Maldives reaffirmed its solidarity with the Government and the fraternal people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and reiterated its commitment to peace and stability in the region.
Sudanese armed groups assaulted and trashed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Embassy in Khartoum on Thursday. In response, the Saudi Foreign Ministry issued a statement criticizing armed groups for attacking and vandalizing their embassy building and connected offices in Sudan.
The Kingdom strongly condemned the sabotage of Saudi embassy employees housing and property.
The ministry stated that the Kingdom condemns all types of violence and sabotage directed towards diplomatic missions and representations. It emphasized the significance of addressing these armed organizations that are attempting to disrupt Sudan's and its people's return to security and stability.
