The ‘Inmates Creativity Fair 2023’ has been inaugurated.
Vice President Faisal Naseem inaugurated the fair on Thursday.
The ‘Inmates Creativity Fair 2023’ is an initiative of the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) and was inaugurated during a ceremony held at Maafushi School on Thursday.
Taking the podium at the event, VP Naseem shed light on the incumbent administration's committed efforts to enhance prison conditions and prioritize the well-being of inmates.
Highlighting the Solih administration’s focus on implementing educational, skill development, and employment programmes in a bid to effectively rehabilitate and reintegrate inmates back into society, the vice president urged all stakeholders to collaborate to create a law-abiding and healthy community.
Being held from June 1 – 2, the Inmates Creativity Fair carries the purpose of easing the reintegration of convicts into society by showcasing the wide array of talents they acquired during their time behind bars.
40 participating inmates are featuring their artistic skills, products, and crafts at the fair, which serves as a platform for this purpose.
As such, the work of the inmates includes a wide range of 800 handicraft items, paintings, and 2,400 plants and produce.
Following the inauguration ceremony, VP Naseem toured the fair and conversed with the inmates about their work.
