The Island council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members of Magoodhoo Island of Faafu atoll has commended President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his administration for their developmental initiatives on the island.

The Island Council and WDC members of Magoodhoo made these remarks during a meeting with President Solih at the secretariat of Magoodhoo Island Council, on Sunday.

During the meeting, the council members commended the President and also mentioned the assistance they received from their parliamentary representative.

Additionally, the council members discussed the island's developmental plans with the President, addressing their concerns and expressing their most pertinent needs. As such, financial concerns, space constraints at the council office, challenges faced by the healthcare centre, the need for coastal protection, and road construction were among the topics discussed, along with exploring potential solutions.

Speaking with the council and WDC members, President Solih provided reassurance that the administration would give high priority to address the concerns of the school and healthcare center.

He further mentioned that Magoodhoo had been identified as one of the priority islands for future road construction.

Additionally, the President assured the members that he would discuss their concerns with the relevant authorities and work towards finding suitable solutions.

President Solih also reaffirmed that his administration was committed to uniform development of all inhabited island large or small, through proactive consultation with the councils and community participation.

Following the meeting, President Solih visited the airport project site of Magoodhoo Island, where he observed the progress of the land reclamation work.

Approximately 40 per cent of the land reclamation work necessary for the project has been completed. It has been disclosed that the administration has decided to extend the airport runway to a length of 1,800 metres, ensuring enhanced airport operations capabilities.

Magoodhoo was the third stop of President Solih's Faafu atoll tour. First Lady Fazna Ahmed and a high level government delegation is accompanying the President on his visits to the five inhabited islands in the atoll.
