The Kurendhoo shore protection project was valued at MVR 42.38 million

The shore protection project initiated in Kurendhoo island of Lhaviyani atoll, has been completed.

This was revealed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on Thursday.

As such, providing the latest updates of the Kurendhoo shore protection project to the public, MTCC revealed that the project has been wrapped up.

The project was contracted to MTCC by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

The Kurendhoo shore protection project was valued at MVR 42.38 million.

Under the scope of the project, MTCC conducted beach filling operations in an area measuring 10,200 cubic meters.

The company also constructed a breakwater measuring 361 meters, a revetment measuring 822 meters as well as groynes measuring 142 meters.

With a population of 2,094, Kurendhoo has been plagued by the issue of soil erosion for a long time. A majority of the island’s population earns income mainly from tourism.

Due to soil erosion, the island has suffered intensive damages, with many trees also having wasted away.

With all sides of the island reeling under erosion, the issue was a long-standing concern and concern for the residents of Kurendhoo.
